[STUDY SESSIONS]
[FOCUS ON PHYSICS]
[ILARC]
Academic Excellence is what OMED's all about. We have high expectations for the performance of Georgia Tech students and provide academic support toward that end. Because we are a data-driven organization, we know that there is a high positive correlation between a student's first semester performance at Tech and that student's graduation from Tech. Thus we urge our incoming freshmen to make a 3.00 GPA their first semester. We also know that by the end of the third semester, a student's GPA is fairly well locked in, with fluctuations less than .5 GPA throughout that student's matriculation. Thus we advocate maintaining a 3.00 GPA for the first three semesters.
STUDY SESSIONS
Study sessions are a study hall type of environment where any Georgia Tech student can come for academic support in the following areas: all Mathematics, all Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and English.
Study sessions are located in 208 Chapin, and our tutors are available Mondays through Thursdays from 5:30 until 8:30 PM. After 5 PM, the front doors of our building are locked, so students enter via the fire escape located between Chapin and D M Smith. Arrangements can be made for those students unable to navigate the fire escape by contacting Guillermo Acosta.
FOCUS ON PHYSICS
Focus on Physics is a joint effort with Georgia Tech's Physics Department that prepares students for the integration of Calculus concepts in the core Physics course sequence. The Physics/OMED Help Lab provides a structured environment to reinforce the Physics principles and develop problem solving techniques. The Laboratory is staffed by faculty, adjunct instructors, and graduate student assistants. Professors teaching current semester Physics classes volunteer their time by holding office hours during Lab sessions. The Help Lab operates Monday through Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in Physics N209. For further questions about Focus On Physics, please contact Bob Hume.
ILARC
Interactive Learning and Academic Resource Center, ILARC, is the name of OMED's computer lab. It is a combination study area and computer resource available to all Georgia Tech students, one of the few places on campus where students have both a study area and a computer cluster in the same room. The lab, located in 208 Chapin, is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8 AM until 10 PM and Fridays from 8 AM until 5 PM.
